Our Thanksgiving Feast!

Today during free choice we work on making our pilgrim hats and Native American Headdresses. We wear them during our feast to remind us of the very first Thanksgiving.

Today we made homemade biscuits and butter. Here, Miss Amy works with friends  to make the butter. We put heavy cream in a Mason jar with two marbles and shook, shook, shook the jar until it thickened and turned to butter. Afterwards, we salted it and tasted our masterpiece!

There was a whole lot of shaking going on! Check out that determination!

"Hey! It actually looks like butter!" This was the perfect addition to our Thanksgiving feast.

And now for a taste test. Delicious!

A wonderful meal with a great group of kiddos! Our Thanksgiving feast was a success!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Have a wonderful holiday with family and friends :)

A Pilgrim's Journey!

Today during morning meeting we read our Weekly Reader about the pilgrims' journey to America on the Mayflower. We learned that it was a long and difficult journey, but that the pilgrims were thankful to reach Plymouth and to make friends with the Native Americans. Ask your child what his/her take-away was :)

Jacob uses his animal books to draw a tiger and a snake. He then writes the words to label the pictures. What a wonderful example of authentic learning! Way to go, Jacob!

I is for Igloos!

I is for igloos! Icky, sticky delicious marshmallow igloos! We used marshmallows, large and small, and marshmallow fluff to create igloos during morning free choice. Check out those awesome structures!

To help us get into the engineering spirit, we check out photos of igloos on the laptop. This gives us some great ideas on how to proceed with our building.

Jacob creates a Thanksgiving feast in the dramatic play area. Looks delicious!

Aatreyu experiments witn our slime during morning free choice. "Wow! Look at the bubbles I'm making!" Super cool!
